Using Auditor to Find Specific Transactions
Sometimes using the front end is the best way to find a transaction. The Account Journal report is amazingly useful, as it can be narrowed down to specific dates and accounts, and shows all transactions in the account you're looking at. So if you want to know why the Baptismal Heater Savings Fund has more or less money than expected, check the Account Journal. If you want to know why an account called Owed to Conference exists, and where that money came from, check the Account Journal.
The Contribution, Deposit, and Check reports can also be narrowed down to specific accounts and dates. And the Check report can be sorted by Check #, by Payee, or by Account, as well. Sorting by Payee is particularly helpful when looking for duplicate remittance checks written out of local funds. And of course, since all of the above are in the front end, treasurers can learn to use those same tools.
But if you want to search for a transaction with a specific amount, you'll need to use the back end of Auditor. Go to Tables / JournalItems, and click on the Amount column. Remember adding money to an account will be a positive amount, and subtracting money will be a negative amount. This table won't differentiate what type of transaction it is. Once you find the amount you're looking for, note the JournalID (second column), then go to View Journal (where the JournalID is visible when you hover over the left-hand column) and find the transaction to see its details in an easier-to-read format.
