Envelope Sizes for Checks and Receipts

Business envelopes come in various sizes.

The #10 business envelope is the standard envelope that is used to mail letters, etc.

#8 two-window envelope. For those of you who print your checks directly from Jewel to pay your bills, the #8 two-window envelope is designed to be the optimal size for mailing them out to vendors. Using this envelope will ensure that the address on the check is in the right place to show through the window. (We have heard more recently that some envelope makers are not being consistent with their measurements. If you have some that work, stay with that brand.)

#9 two-window envelope. And then, just to clutter up your supply closet, we recommend you obtain a #9 two-window envelope for your end-of-year tax receipts. Using this size will enable you to mail the receipt without entering the mailing address by hand, if you fold and insert it correctly. Make sure you have a supply on hand so that when you are printing your receipts in January, you are not having to rush around looking for the right size.

Walmart usually has #10 and #9. They may not carry #8 in store, but Staples or other supply stores have them, or they can be ordered.
